As I was cleaning my desk and sorting a bunch of papers yesterday morning, I saw several old clippings from newspapers. One of the newspaper articles was about coffee.
The said clipping didn’t contain steps on how to drink coffee to the next level (for instance, drinking two size Venti—Quarenta?— that would cause your eyes to slightly pop out from your head!) or how to master the art and science of (smelling and) sipping coffee (*j/k). The article simply indicated some coffee terms.
I got the clipping just for quick and easy reference.
We may google “coffee terms” to get comprehensive information.
Let us keep in mind our health before we take our next cup of coffee. Overindulgence on beverages may lead to catastrophic illnesses.
Here’s the short list of coffee terms:
COFFEE TERMS
Arabica
- More flavorful than the widely drunk coffee and the most common cultivated species of coffee in the market.
Acidity
- A very refreshing palate cleansing quality that increases the flavor and adds liveliness to the cup.
Aroma
- Smell of roasted coffee fragrance produced by brewed coffee. The first and often the most important impression. Terms used to describe it includes caramelly (candy or syrup like), carbony (for dark roasts), chocolatey, nutty, rich, round, spicy.
Blend
- A mixture of two or more varietals of coffee.
Body
- The mouth-feel (as coffee professionals refer to). It is the sense of viscosity associated with taste. The perceived thickness of brewed coffee on the tongue (watery or buttery, thin or light, medium to full, heavy or syrupy).
Cappuccino
- A drink made with espresso and milk foam.
Cupping
- A process to assess the aroma, taste, texture characteristics of a sample coffee.
Demitasse
- A French term meaning half cup. A small cup for serving Espresso.
Espresso
- A method of brewing coffee by forcing hot water at high pressure through finely ground coffee making a syrupy texture and a sweet, powerful taste.
Flavor
- The overall impression of aroma, acidity and body. Flavor is also used to acknowledge specific characteristics such as spice, nut or fruit.
Foam, Froth
- Milk which has been made thick and foamy by aerating it with hot stream.
French Roast
- Roast almost jet black in color. It is bittersweet in taste but a good French Roast does not taste burnt.
Java
- The first big world coffee supplier (Java, Indonesia) and as such became the generic word for a cup of coffee, coffee in general.
Latte
- A drink with Espresso, steamed milk and a skiff of foam.
Varietal
- Unblended coffee from a single country, region or crop.
Whole Foam
- Roasted coffee but not ground.
Notes:
I intentionally didn’t include the date on the clipping.
*j/k – just kidding

Witnessing Christ’s Commission Fellowship (CCF) celebrate twenty-five years of God’s goodness and faithfulness in Araneta Coliseum today was a blast!
The Worship Service starts by displaying the “CCF History Video.” It shows a man running on several roads and reaching different places to point CCF’s beginnings, its present location (year 2009), and the future mega site in Pasig City.
Then, the wind instruments set the atmosphere for worship and then reveal the song “With One Voice,” together with the percussion and string instruments, in a majestic way.
Ms. Kuh Ledesma renders the song “Above All” during the special number segment, leaving us in awe of God’s sovereignty and love.
Two new Christians gave their testimonies on how God saved and transformed their lives.
Enter Mr. “Pure Energy” Gary Valenciano. He walks from the right stage, says a few things, and begins to belt out the classic song “Take Me Out of the Dark.”
Amid the joyous celebration, the lights and sounds, the songs and videos, Senior Pastor Peter Tan-Chi exhorts everyone that the twenty-five years of existence of CCF is all about Jesus Christ and not about us. Also, he gave a talk based on the parable about a father and his two sons (Luke 15:11-32).
The worship service ends with people making a commitment to the great commission (Mt. 28:18-20), and praising God through songs “We’ll Be Faithful,” “Salamat, Salamat” and “Jesus, You are So Good.”
If I were to state only three key learnings from the 25th anniversary celebration, these would be:
- God loves his children unconditionally, as illustrated on the parable on Luke 15:11-32; He celebrates and rejoices after His child, who was dead, has begun to live, and who was lost, and was now found.
- CCF is a movement that glorifies God through transformed lives.
- The 25th anniversary celebration of CCF, held in Araneta Coliseum, is all about Jesus Christ and not about us; He has given us 25 years and has shown His goodness in spite of who we are.

There are articles I wrote, a couple of years ago, which are still with me. I’d like to publish it on NITROMOVES. I modified some stuff on this article. Feel free to send comments.
“My Personal Library”
Inch by inch, I’m building my personal library at home. It is my dream to have a vast collection of books to enrich my mind and to share the literature with others.
On weekends, and sometimes after office hours, I would visit a bookstore. I would browse good books and other reading materials to keep myself updated. I see to it that the books I will buy are in line with my major goals I’ve set for the current year and beyond.
